Get the certificate paperwork ready
The certificate has to name you as the importer, so you are the one who issues it.
What this is
You are the one who certifies an imported product, so the certificate is in your company's name. That is true even when your supplier's lab did the tests. If you also use CPSC's Product Registry, the same data goes there once, and your broker can point to it each time.
What you need
- The supplier's documents from the previous step: the test report, the manufacture date and the factory's details
- Your company's name, address and phone, and who keeps the test records
- Only if you use CPSC's Product Registry: an account there, in your company's name
If it's missed
A certificate in your supplier's name does not cover you. A missing one is often found at the port or in a marketplace review, when it costs the most to fix.
