It comes by email and shows on your Account Health page. Sellers on Amazon's forums have quoted the wording: “annual testing or document verification” in the first email, and “you must provide documents related to Children's Toys” on the dashboard, with a due date. Some listings are marked “child safety testing required.”
Because this is Amazon's rule, on top of the law. The law already asks for a Children's Product Certificate (CPC) and tests from a CPSC-accepted lab, repeated at least once a year, or every two or three years under a testing plan.
Amazon goes further. It wants a report from the last 12 months, and it wants an approved testing company to check it, not you.
Yes, if it's less than 12 months old, comes from a CPSC-accepted lab, and every result says Pass or Not applicable. The testing company checks it and sends the result to Amazon. A report that's older, or shows a Fail or a blank, means a new test.
Picture a plush bear with a CPC from last year. If the test report behind it is 14 months old, the bear needs a new test, even if nothing about it changed.
Photos of every side of the toy and its box, the model number, the maker's or importer's name and address, the tracking label and the warnings.
And the age. The youngest age on your listing can't be lower than the age on the test report. A toy tested for 3 and up can't be listed for 18-month-olds.
The notice gives an “Address issue by” date. Once you place the test request and the testing company gets your toy or papers, the request shows “in progress,” and Amazon says the listing stays up. If the toy fails, the listing comes down right away.
It doesn't always go to plan. One seller said the listing came down the day the notice arrived, weeks before the date. And deleting the listing doesn't clear the notice: an Amazon moderator said it stays on the page for 180 days.
Amazon says the testing company contacts you within two business days, and testing “typically takes 30 days” once it has the samples (an Amazon post, July 2026). Each company's quote gives its price and timeline, and you can compare quotes.
Yes, from the same Account Health page. But Amazon's idea of a toy is broad: anything with play value for a child 12 or under, and every plush toy, whatever the age label. Amazon decides the appeal.
